REVIEW: DEATH GRIPS – ‘THE MONEY STORE’

“The Money Store” is the second coming of Californian noise monsters Death Grips, now signed to major label Epic. Due to be officially released on April 24 for record store day it features the singles “Blackjack”, “Get Got” and “Fever (Aye Aye)”. You find yourself locked in the Death Grips of an acid dungeon from start to finish but it certainly leaves no prisoners baying for escape as this is no painful experience.  The vocals are aggressive and have an experimental hip-hop edge that’s very hard to pigeonhole with anything else that comes to mind other that ODB. Sampling a twisted mash up of unconventional heavy hip-hop and grim beats, the album’s thirteen intense tracks are probably not for the lighthearted pop world or daytime radio. This is a step out of the underground for an act that is already developing an army of fans from all genres and backgrounds leaving me wanting to experience the thrill of a live gig.

Rating 4/5
