Knockengorroch 2013 – Preview

In a hidden vale in South-West Scotland, beside the waters of the river Deugh, once a year in spring-time, a beautiful creature stirs from its slumber…   The impossible to spell Knockengorroch festival is surely one of the hidden gems of the UK festival circuit. Originally a twice yearly affair, timed to coincide with the spring and autumnal equinoxes, you might think that the festival rates quite highly on the ‘Yoghurt Weaver Scale’ and in truth, it does, but in the very best way possible. Organised and run along explicitly independent and anti-corporate lines, it is the perfect antidote to the £6 burgers and heavy branding you find all too often in UK festivals these days.

Calling itself a World Ceilidh the line-up has always been heavy on music from the Celtic diaspora… so expect alot of folk basically. Knockengorroch however, has always been a festival that caters to a variety of tastes and in the last few years has played to host to some truely great artists that you would, perhaps not expect. Last year’s line-up included Utah Saints, The Skatalites and the mighty Mungo’s Hi-Fi Soundsystem who, we here are extremely excited to report, are back this year alongside Asian Dub Foundation, Congo Natty and all time, JAM festival favorites: Slamboree.

Running from the 23rd-26th of May, if you are looking for a no-hassle atmosphere, great music and a beautiful location, this is your perfect warm up session for the 2013 partying-in-fields season. We hope you’ll give this little stunner a go. See you in the mud!!!
