April is shaping up to be a gala month at Leed’s hottest new venue, Canal Mills. (Re)Established in 2012, this renovated Victorian mill located in the Armley area of Leeds, has played host to everything from pop-up restaurants to music events and continues to nurture a wide variety of creative output. Inexplicably, it is still not widely known even among Leeds locals, a mystery considering both its accomplishments and potential. We at JAM predict that this spring however, will see a serious up-swing in Canal Mills’ profile and we highly suggest that you get in on the ground floor.

The Easter bank holiday weekend sees the enchanting Maya Jane Coles and the always impressive Joy Orbison, headlining a marathon sixteen hour event, in association with Wax:On and Mono_Cult. With two indoor stages and an outdoor arena, this is shaping up to be the perfect way to make the most out of your Monday off work. On the 19th, Metropolis, a night which has become a bye-word for quality electronic music, is coming to town. Featuring the cutting edge, triple-threat of Shadow Child, Bondax and SBTRKT, we’re sure that the 5am finish time will be insufficient! Celebrating a decade of kicking it with killer parties and releases, the Crosstown Rebels label are embarking on a world tour spanning five continents. On the 26th of April, they land in Leeds and with label founder, producer, DJ and journalist Damian Lazarus heading up the bill alongside the sublime Francesca Lombardo, you know this is going to be one to remember. Mr. Scruff is also crossing the Pennines to host one of his idiosyncratic, five hour tea parties in honour of the May bank holiday; so all in all, there has to be something there to whet your whistle.
