BEATHERDER PREVIEW – ANOTHER NEW ARENA!!!

With less than two weeks to go until the party starts, Beatherder have finally released full details regarding the second of their two, new-for-2013, arenas and my god, they’ve smashed it again! The ingeniously titled Maison D’etra, will essentially be the live-music counterpart to The Fortress, the new 60 foot long rave box. Aside from musical differences though, the entire atmosphere is intended as the flipside of the coin. Rather than imposing architecture and an even more imposing soundsystem, the Maison’ at a more modest 15 metres square, is designed as a venue in which to see some of the best up-and-comers currently taking to stages, anywhere. By the looks of the line-up, we recon the Maison D’etra may well become Beatherder’s raison d’etra.

Featuring the idiosyncratic and at times, frankly disturbing, Sicknote; five chancers from Cardiff who have knowingly or not, created one of the most distinguishable sounds ever. Mixing elements of Punk, Electro and Techno into a nasty, seedy and utterly danceable amalgamation, together with their ‘cabaret from hell’ style stageshow, makes them a definite one to watch. The mighty Random Hand are also making an appearance at the Maison and our advice to anyone who hasn’t caught them before is: GO AND SEE THEM FOOL! If you have seen them before, you’ll be there. One of the greatest Skacore bands ever to come out of the UK, tunes like ‘Bones’ and ‘Scum Triumphant’ will have you in the circle pit faster than you can say “christ on a bike, these guys are good!”. Headlining proceedings is the fantastic Beans On Toast. Singing modern day folk ballards on subjects like one night stands, the Angry Birds game and his own recreational drug habit; the wry, at times even beautiful lyrics combined with a gravelly, no nonsense delivery (think a contemporary, southern english version of Bob Dylan) are sure to peak your interest.

Beatherder starts next Friday, gates open from 9am, and the JAM crew will be there, bright eyed, bushy tailed and ready to go. To all of you who actually got your shit together, if you need transport, Woofbus offers extremely reasonable party-buses for £15-£20 return, from Leeds, Manchester and Preston, a link to which you can find at the bottom of this article. See you in the mud!
